Internet content gateway Excite Inc. unveiled a deal on Thursday with the Buena Vista Internet Group for access to the Walt Disney Co. subsidiary's sports and news content.

"We are definitely pleased to be hosting some of Walt Disney's content," said Melissa Walia, spokeswoman for Excite.

Is the small content deal the prelude to the big cheese?

Walt Disney and Excite make a lot of sense. Here's why.

The content deal allows Excite to display co-branded content from ESPN SportsZone, ABC.com, and ABCNEWS.com. The content will be displayed on Excite's Sports and News channels as well as other locations on Excite's search and information site.

The content from Disney is expected to be available on Excite by the end of the June. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Walia would not comment on reports that The Walt Disney Company is looking to buy Excite.

On May 21, Excite turned down a $72-per-share buyout offer from food processing company-cum-Net mogul Zapata Corp. The offer was $16 above Excite's current stock price, $56.
