Ford reports new hybrid sales milestone

Ford bucks industry-wide decline in hybrid vehicle sales to post 67 percent growth this year.

Automaker Ford is reporting a 67 percent increase in sales for its hybrid vehicle models for 2009, despite an 11 percent sales decline across hybrids as a whole. Here's a related CNET post from earlier this fall about the company's hybrid strategy.

Through November, Ford sold 31,000 hybrids, which is more than it shipped in 2007. The new Fusion Hybrid sedan introduced back in March has accounted for 45 percent of all Ford hybrid sales this year -- so far. The model gets 41 miles per gallon for city driving and 36 miles per gallon on the highway.
