SINGAPORE--Fujitsu Asia has teamed up with Singapore's Data Storage Institute (DSI) to establish a research and development (R&D) center for high-performance storage area network (SAN) technologies.

Dubbed the SAN Academy, the new research facility is described as an operationally-ready lab that aims to "foster R&D, training and offer end-user services for SAN technologies", according to a media statement Monday released by Fujitsu.

DSI operates under Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), a government agency responsible for building the country's "human capital" and scientific research capabilities.

Under the new collaboration, Fujitsu Asia will deploy its Eternus SAN system at the R&D lab, while DSI will provide computing infrastructure and equipment in its Network Storage Technology research laboratory located within the SAN Academy.

In addition, the new lab will undertake activities centered on Eternus systems, including joint studies on next-generation storage networking technologies, proof-of-concept testing, as well as provide training and certification programs.

According to Fujitsu Asia, end-users and interested parties such as IT professionals, academics and researchers, may visit the facility to find out more about various aspects of storage networking, including R&D, multi-tier security implementation, product modeling, simulation and design.

"Visitors to the center can tap on our expertise to gain valuable insights on developing, implementing and managing high-reliability SAN systems," said Masaki Kajiyama, president of Singapore operations at Fujitsu Asia.
