Fujitsu Siemens launches 3G laptop range

Fujitsu Siemens has introduced a new range of professional notebook computers, all of which have integrated 3G connectivity.

The Esprimo series of laptops, which will go on sale from August, includes three models, ranging from the ultra-portable 12.1" U9200 to the 15.4" D9500 desktop replacement model. All are based on Core 2 Duo chipsets and feature widescreens.

Dieter Herzog, executive vice president of infrastructure products at Fujitsu Siemens, said on Wednesday that the Esprimo notebooks were "tailor-made for business people who do not want to lose out on any office comforts while travelling", due to their integration of 3G connectivity. 

Notebooks with integrated 3G have become more common over the past year and, at one point, the technology was even due to be included in Intel's Santa Rosa platform. However, talks between Intel and Nokia on the subject broke down due to the lack of a common business case, leaving the inclusion of such technology up to individual manufacturers. Intel is widely expected to include mobile WiMax connectivity instead in the next generation of its chipsets.

In March, Fujitsu Siemens chief executive Bernd Bischoff announced that his company would at some point have 3G connectivity included in all its notebook computers.
