Getac UK has announced the V200 fully rugged convertible notebook, which it says is the most powerful of its kind in the world. It's also the first rugged notebook to run on Intel's 2.0GHz Core i7 processor.

The notebook is MIL-STD-810G and IP65 compliant. It has a full magnesium alloy casing and features a fanless cooling system. It can be used in temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius.

The display measures 12.1in. across the diagonal and is a resistive touchscreen. This means it can be used by people wearing gloves as it doesn't require skin contact for touch to be registered. It does support multitouch input though — something more usually associated with capacitive screens.

The screen incorporates Getac's exclusive 1200 NITs QuadraClear technology, which allows it to be used outside in direct sunlight.

A new battery-swapping system, which Getac calls LifeSupport, is incorporated. This allows field-based users to swap a depleted battery for a fresh one while the notebook is in standby mode. The V200 will remain in standby for 2.5 minutes to allow enough time for battery swapping to be completed.

Getac says this ought to prove faster than closing applications, shutting down, replacing the battery, starting up, and reopening the applications you were using.

The Getac V200 has a 320GB hard drive with shock protection and can be configured with an 80GB SSD if preferred. Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n) is included, as well as Bluetooth and wired Ethernet. GPS and mobile broadband are available as options.
