The Shop.org survey of 150 online retailers, quoted by NYT, says that the average cost of attracting new orders went down to $4 from $8 in 2003. Companies pulled out of million-dollar deals with AOL, MSN and Yahoo among others, and concentrated on paid search. Brad Hill also mentions paid search ads leading to increased sales.
