Universal power supply advocate Green Plug has struck up an alliance with WiPower, which is one of the companies that makes those pads that you can use to charge your cell phone, digital camera or MP3 player wirelessly.

The two say that they plan to develop versions of the wireless power chargers using the Greentalk protocol that will be to adjust the power delivered to devices dynamically, so that the device that's being charged only receives that power it needs. In other words, when your BlackBerry is charged, the device would automatically stop delivering power. If you needed to juice up your iPod, a different level of power would be delivered. One charger, many devices.

Here's an extra little bit of primer information on WiPower's technology.

There isn't much more information available yet about the Green Plug and WiPower alliance, although the two companies say they plan to post a white paper with some technical information as it emerges. Meanwhile, Green Plug continues to beat the bushes for development support for the idea of a universal power supply, but so far the big guys have been mum.
