Big Blue announced the acquisition on Thursday.

The tech giant says the buyout will extend IBM's analytics platforms, design and consultancy businesses, with the overall aim of delivering "differentiated, consumer-grade experiences via the cloud."

Financial details of the purchase were not disclosed.

Bluewolf, a specialist in the Salesforce platform, assists businesses in leveraging the cloud and mobility in improving corporate processes and business models.

The company has over 9,500 corporate Salesforce platform projects under its belt and stands as one of the oldest Salesforce partners with 12 global offices and over 500 employees worldwide.

Previous clients include Stanley Black & Decker, Sapa Building Systems and Vodafone Hutchinson Australia.

IBM says that the Bluewolf team will be joining IBM iX, a unit of IBM Global Business Services, on completion of the deal. The team will retain the same focus and will be providing consultancy services for companies looking to adopt the Salesforce platform.

With the Salesforce industry estimated to be worth $111 billion, the Armonk, NY-based firm wants to stay ahead of the game and lure as many SMB and enterprise clients to the fold as possible.

Bridget van Kralingen, senior vice president of IBM Global Business Services commented:

"There is no question that the consumer-grade experience has emerged as a fundamental element in modern business strategy.
Meeting that expectation defines next-generation differentiation and competitive position, and with Bluewolf, we add expertise to scale that capability to the cloud-based capabilities of Salesforce."

The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2016 and is subject regulatory approval.
