IBM aims to connect corporate mashups and BI

A new service can expose content from IBM's Cognos 8 business intelligence suite as a web service, so the data can then be used in other applications and mashups

IBM on Tuesday launched a mashup service for its Cognos 8 business intelligence suite.

The offering, dubbed IBM Cognos 8 Mashup Service, is an application programming interface (API) that can expose content from Cognos 8 as a web service. That corporate data can then be used in other applications and mashups.

In a nutshell, the business intelligence (BI) data can be portable to human resources, procurement and sales management applications, similar to exporting a business intelligence or analytics report to a widget.
