At the end of last month, 45 workers had voted to strike, after the Australian Services Union said IBM had failed to address employee concerns about pay and working conditions at the Flightdeck in Baulkham Hills.

Strike action was averted at a last minute meeting between IBM and the union where the company said it would make an offer to employees. That offer was rejected, and negotiations continued.

Australian Services Union branch secretary Sally McManus said that although the new offer didn't address all of the employees' demands, it had progressed well since the last one.

"There's some of the things in there they've wanted," she said. "There's been some significant progress."

However, she couldn't call how the vote, to be held amongst union members tonight, would fall. "Really it's up to them," she said. IBM had no further comment to the issue.
