Written by Justin Pearse, Contributor

The Macintosh version of Internet Explorer 5 is available for free download, Microsoft announced Monday.

The browser has had a cosmetic makeover. Users can change the colour of the software to match the various flavours of Apple's computers and there is a colour option to go with the upcoming Mac OS X Aqua interface.

New to the release is the Tasman rendering engine, which Microsoft claims gives a performance increase of up 50 percent.Other new features include an Auction Manager, a built-in tool to track and complete multiple auctions simultaneously, and the Internet Scrapbook, which allows users to capture, store and organise Web pages for future reference directly in the browser.
