Intel, Cisco speed Fast Ethernet take-up

Intel and Cisco today announced a 20-city European seminar tour to raise the profile of Fast Ethernet technology.

The Fast Ethernet seminars start this week, aimed at telling corporates the most cost-effective way to upgrade their Ethernet setups. Intel and Cisco will introduce their product ranges, experts will help attendees configure their networks, and analyst IDC will present an industry overview.

The seminar will explain how to increase network bandwidth to the 100Mbits Fast Ethernet, but will also pave the way for the VLAN I.EEE and Gigabyte Ethernet standards which will come to the mainstream in about five years, said Georg Monzel, Intel European marketing programme manager.

"Fast Ethernet is now happening," maintained Monzel. "Six months ago Fast Ethernet covered only 12 per cent of the market but it is now 15 per cent and climbing fast: The price is coming down so much that it's a no-brainer not to buy normal Ethernet," he said.
