ISP Internode has appointed it's first chief information officer: Mike Damms, an industry veteran with previous experience at companies including Vodafone UK, Avaya, Lucent and Motorola.

The ISP announced in August that it planned to appoint its first CIO as part of a management restructure that saw Patrick Tapper appointed CEO, working alongside managing director Simon Hackett.

According to a statement from Internode, Damms said his role as CIO was to break down silos between technology areas by applying standardisation across product lines. "I plan to put in place a structure that gives people more predictable outcomes for both their external and internal customers," he said.

"As the company has grown, [Internode's staff] are working on so many different initiatives that priorities can be a challenge," Damms said. Formerly a resident of the UK, Damms also spent 15 years serving in the Royal Navy.

Internode also recently signed a deal with Telstra to give the company access to 900 ADSL 2+ equipped DSLAMs, doubling the company's geographic reach.
