Is Sprint watching you?

I'm not quite sure how this fits into the company's overall marketing scheme, but Sprint's got a Big Brother-esque Flash "widget" on its site that tracks, among other things, the latest headlines on Newsvine, what terms the Internet is buzzing about, how much energy the world is using, how many eggs are being produced, how many babies are being born, and how many people are stuck in elevators...in what appears to be real time.

Freaky eye candy to be sure, but it's an impressive display of media aggregation, if nothing else. (Not sure how new/old this is -- anyone know?)

Check it out for yourself (Flash required; sound recommended): Sprint: Plug into Now.

(Thanks to The Atlantic's Anup Kaphle for the tip)
