Is this newest Apple netbook rumor just more wishful thinking?

The news has been a bit slow here on The Mobile Gadgeteer so let's start off this week with another Apple netbook rumor. As jkOnTheRun is reporting, DigiTimes is reporting that Wintek claims to have a contract for a touchscreen Apple netbook. The Apple netbook rumors have been around for some time and in most cases I think it is people dreaming about such a device rather than a story with actual evidence. This one may turn out to be the same wishful thinking too.

As Jason posted last week you can turn a Dell netbook into a Mac by following a fairly straight forward procedure. The MSI Wind and other netbooks can also be made into ultra portable Mac computers, but there are debates about whether or not this is legal. These netbooks can be turned into Mac OS X machines for less than $500, but I can't believe that Apple would actually launch one in that price range.

The current rumor is that Apple will make these available towards the end of 2009 in time for the holiday buying season. With the economic concerns and the success of the netbooks, it does appear that the time is right for Apple to enter this market. However, with the iPod touch priced from $229 to $399 I imagine such an ultra portable from Apple would be priced at $699 or $799 and then take one of the most attractive aspects of these devices out of the picture, the price.

Do you think Apple ever will enter the netbook market?
