Sixteen plaintiffs – and potentially millions more – launched a class-action lawsuit against NebuAd and 26 of its ISP partners in California court, ClickZ reports.

The suit claims NebuAd and the ISPs violated privacy and computer security laws. Only six ISPs -- CenturyTel, WOW, CableOne, Embarq, Knology and Bresnan Communications – are named in the suit, but 20 others are included as John Does – defendants yet to be identified.

Plaintiffs claim the companies violated the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, as well as California's Invasion of Privacy Act and Computer Crime Law

Defendants have intentionally used such electronic communications with knowledge...that the electronic communications were obtained through interception for an unlawful purpose.
