Lycos Asia launches in India
SINGAPORE, 18 July 2000 -- Lycos Asia, part of a global Internet communications, commerce and media company, LycosInc., has announced the launch of Lycos India, a portal site dedicated to Internet users in India and to individualswith a special interest in the country.

The website will offer highly localized content and services in English and the main local language - Hindi. The site's content, built in India in collaboration with local content partners, will provide an array of top quality information and services including search, local directories, free e-mail and web-building and channels of special relevance to the local communities.
In December 1999, Lycos Asia was formed in Singapore. With the launch of Lycos Asia in India, it hopes to be on its way towards the creation of a Pan-Asian portal by the end of the year.
The company feels that Lycos Asia's entry into India is the most natural and logical step in the light of India representing Asia's fastest growing Internet population and the country's fast developing Information Technological infrastructure.
