Anticipating the consumerist crush of desire in September, Amazon has made available Apple's Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system for pre-order.

Those who have done their homework on the OS have no surprises waiting for them: $29 for an individual, five-user family pack for $49, server version for $499 and two bundles with iWork and iLife: a single user for $169 and a five-user pack for $229.

Apple's own site still just lists a "notify me for availability" pane.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is an update to Apple's popular Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system. Apple says the new version will refine, rather than revamp, the framework of Leopard, with faster speeds, added functionality, Microsoft Exchange support, further steps toward 64-bit and refinements to the way the software interacts with the hardware.
