In the recent past, I spoke with representatives of Doynez, the developers of Doyenz Automated Virtual IT. I thought that hearing from one of their customers would be the best way to understand the benefits Doynez's product offers. Here are Grant Thompson's responses to the Kusnetzky Group customer profile questionnaire. Grant is the founder and chief solutions architect of MG Technology Group. Thanks for taking the time to respond, Grant!

Please tell us about your organization and your role within the organization

MG Technology Group was founded in 2003 based on the principle of “business first, technology second” - creating solutions to business problems using technology. With roots in business intelligence, system integration, and business process automation MG Technology Group quickly realized that bringing high quality solutions to small and midsize businesses would require a SaaS model.

MG Technology Group began hosting solutions in 2006 and now provides a growing number of solutions – some proprietary and other packaged offerings. Today MG Technology Group is emerging as a leader in “boutique” hosting. Providing flexibility, business savvy, and customer service that is unparalleled by large companies. I am the founder and Chief Solutions Architect providing overall company leadership and business development.  I also work closely with our partners/customers to ensure our customer service is top notch.

What are you doing that needed this technology?

We wanted to be able to offer our customers, primarily IT service providers, next-generation management tools that would allow them to be more efficient while providing more consistent and higher quality service to their customers.

What did you consider before making a selection?

We looked at creating some of these solutions ourselves or incorporating some well known monitoring and management solutions, but did not find any comprehensive solutions.

Why did you select this product?

The problem with the existing solutions is that they fell short of what we believed would be truly valuable. The Doyenz Automated Virtual IT offered the most comprehensive platform for SMB IT, including automated migrations, testing in the virtual lab, active DR & failover in the cloud, along with remote monitoring and management.

What tangible benefits can you attribute to use of this product?

With Doyenz we are able to test configuration changes, patches and other updates, troubleshoot issues without “testing possible solutions on a customer’s production server”. Our SMB customers are able to enjoy cloud-based based server backups that are testable and that can be restored to our data center in a few minutes in the event of a catastrophic failure.

What advice would you offer others facing similar challenges?

This is an unprecedented level of availability and business continuity for a small business. If anything goes wrong with the customer’s environment, I can simply get them failed-over in the cloud, and then take the time to do the right kind of diagnostics, forensics, and recovery for the customer. Exploring these solutions just make sense – similar to when virus protection became widely available.  It’s our next generation of computing.
