Mijenix is moving into the storage drive utilities market with the release of FreeSpace (£40 inc. VAT), a Windows 95 and NT product that promises to increase disk space through selective file and program compression, and cluster optimisation.

The result, according to Mijenix, is about 150 per cent more space per compressed file. No partitions or compressed drives are required for the gain, the firm says, so there is no memory overhead or performance hit. Compressed files automatically decompress when clicked on.

FreeSpace is available in the UK through AstraSoft on 01494-533393.
