Mobius brings records management to SharePoint

SharePoint is a collection of information-sharing and collaboration services and development tools. The new version of ViewDirect RM enables organizations to index, link, store, search, access, and manage SharePoint records over the complete lifecycle and destroy them in a timely manner, Mobius claimed.

These capabilities afford compliance with regulatory requirements as well as corporate retention and disposition policies, the company added. ViewPoint RM for SharePoint utilizes a "touchless" system that manages the record lifecycle while keeping the records in the SharePoint SQL repository.

ViewDirect RM for SharePoint is part of the ViewDirect TCM suite, which consists of a content repository and products designed to integrate content across disparate storage areas; support regulatory compliance; and automate business processes. With full integration, records can be migrated from SharePoint to the ViewDirect TCM repository, where they can be managed according to retention rule definitions -- rules that will also control record migration from primary storage to lower-cost "near-line" storage devices, such as those from EMC and Network Appliance, Mobius said.

ViewDirect RM for SharePoint 4.6 integrates with Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 and 2003, and also supports the following environments: Windows 2000, XP, Server 2000, and Server 2003; Office 2000, 2003, and XP; and SQL Server 2000, MSDE, Oracle 9i, Informix, IBM DB2, Sybase, and Sybase Anywhere.
