MS posts Word 97/6.0 conversion tool
Microsoft has posted a utility designed to solve some of the problems caused by Word 97's method of saving Word 6.0 files.
Available for download now, the new Word 6.0/95 converter saves Word 97 documents in binary format with a .doc extension rather than Rich Text Format (RTF), as was originally the case. More efficient compression is also added to keep resulting file sizes down.
However, Microsoft says that converting files to Word 6.0 will mean that several features are lost in translation including page borders, animated text, and some tables and Internet features.
The converter is a 623Kb file.
