NBN Co hires ex-Sun MD

NBN Co yesterday announced the appointment of former Sun Microsystems Australasia managing director Jim Hassell to its senior executive team.

"Jim has extensive experience in working with customers in the technology sector and complements the diverse breadth of experience that we have within the NBN Co management," said NBN Co chief executive officer, Mike Quigley in a statement.

Based in Sydney, Hassell will report to Quigley in his new role of head of product development and sales, which will be effective in June.

"The establishment of a Product Development and Sales division in NBN Co will ensure the organisation forges productive relationships with retail service providers as we move to deliver our wholesale products to the market," Quigley said.

Hassell was the Australasian managing director of Sun from 2000 to 2008. In that time, he doubled Sun's local market share and increased local revenues by 20 per cent and profits by 282 per cent, NBN Co's statement said.
