Netflix expands consumer electronics distribution

Netflix inked a bevy of consumer electronics distribution pacts at CES 2010.

Netflix's streaming service will be embedded on most brands of digital TVs and Blu-ray disc players via five distribution pacts announced Thursday.

Netflix's streaming service success can largely be attributed to a variety of embedded distribution pacts. At CES 2010 in Las Vegas, video rental service inked deals with:

  • Funai, which distributes the Philips, Magnavox, Sylvania and Emerson brands in the United States;
  • Panasonic;
  • Sanyo;
  • Sharp;
  • And Toshiba.

All of those brands will distribute Netflix's service on their players and TVs. With the moves, Netflix is almost embedded everywhere because it has deals with LG, Samsung, Sony, Microsoft's Xbox, TiVo and Vizio.

Add it up and Netflix is projecting that its service will be embedded on 100 different products this year.
