Netgear recalls Ethernet bridge

Home networking gear maker Netgear voluntarily issued a recall on one of its Ethernet bridges on Wednesday after it discovered the product could cause a potential electrical hazard. The problem exists with the XE102 Wall Plug Ethernet Bridge with serial numbers XE12A32LB000001 through XE12A32LB005000 and XE12134LB005021 through XE12143LB053586.

The plastic casing on the unit, which plugs into the wall, could become detached, potentially causing electrical shocks. No injuries have been reported, Netgear said. The roughly 53,500 units being recalled were sold at various electronics stores, Web sites and through the Netgear Web site from February 2003 through May 2004. Consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact the company for a free repair kit, Netgear said. Information on the recall and the repair kit can be found on the company's Web site.
