Netscape to support hardware tokens, smart cards

Netscape today said it will support smart cards and hardware tokens in its Communicator Web client software.

The firm said the move will let mobile users a secure way to take digital certificates on the road, in order to remotely access data or send and receive encrypted e-mail.

Also, Netscape said it would support the RSA Labs Public Key Cryptography Standard (PKCS #11) for smart cards and tokens, allwoing security vendors to integrate products with Netscape software.
