New Samsung phone takes AIM

Samsung on Wednesday said it will embed America Online's AOL Instant Messenger service in a new mobile phone. The agreement highlights AOL's ongoing push to spread its popular instant messaging and e-mail services to non-PC devices as part of its "AOL Anywhere" strategy. Samsung's SGH-r225M phone uses GSM (Global System For Mobile Communications) technology, which allows for text messaging and faster exchange of data. The phone is slated to be released this month. --Jim Hu, Special to ZDNet News
