News Burst: 700 jobs created at new IBM plant

Hundreds of new jobs will be created in Ireland following an announcement that IBM is to open a new plant in Dublin.

IBM has invested £147M in the manufacturing plant which will employ 700 to meet what it sees as the growing demand for hard disk platters.

"The applications that are driving the global IT market are all data and storage intensive," said Jean-Marie Mathiot, director of Storage Systems Sales, IBM. "From e-business to enterprise resource planning to business intelligence and more. These demands fuel the need for faster and more reliable disk storage."
