News Burst: CallNet still down, BT hits back

Two days in and CallNet's phone registration lines are still out of action.

CallNet, the first UK ISP to offer completely free Internet access, is still asking for registration details to be sent by email. A notice posted on the company's site claims that its phone registration lines have been frozen "in order to allow BT time to upgrade capacity".

However a BT spokesman claimed the telco had allocated the extra capacity ordered by CallNet on time, but was still waiting for it to fulfil its side of the transaction process. "The circuits are all available, we delivered the capacity they ordered on September 27," said a BT spokesman. "What appears to have happened is that they have not agreed a date for the testing of it."
