News Burst: Computacenter launches e-commerce venture

Computacenter said Wednesday it will launch Biomni, a business-to-business e-commerce venture, in partnership with Computasoft E-commerce.

Computacenter chief executive Mike Norris said in a statement: "Our decision to invest in this new company reflects our belief in the e-commerce opportunity. Biomni will enable us to extend the commercial reach of our joint developments over the last nine years and is our response to growing customer demand for a system that offers extended e-commerce capability." Financial terms were not disclosed.

Computacenter, which sells IT hardware, software and services, has been recently hit by speculation that the year-2000 bug will lead to a significant slowdown in corporate IT expenditures, which could affect the group's bottom line.
