News Burst: Netscape to be bought?

Netscape may finally have found a buyer in AOL and, according to sources, "an announcement" from the US is expected later today.

If the deal goes ahead AOL would gain access to one of the world's leading web browsers as well as Netscape's software and website. It is reported that Sun Microsystems may also be part of the $4bn (£2.4bn) deal, allowing AOL to distribute its Java technology to its 14 million subscribers. The combined force could prove a significant threat to Microsoft according to analysts.
