Nintendo teases us with 3DS - DS/DSi update offering glasses-free 3D gaming

This is pretty cool! Nintendo has announced that it is releasing an update to the DS/DSi handheld console line and introducing a brand new feature - glasses-free 3D!

The new console, tentatively called the 3DS, will offer 3D gaming effects without the need for any of those goofy 3D glasses.

Details are sketchy. Here's all the details press release (PDF) offered:

  • Nintendo 3DS is a tentative name
  • Launch is scheduled for fiscal year ending March 2011
  • The new handheld games console will be cartridge compatible with the DS and DSi handheld consoles
  • More details will be announced at the E3 show in June
