The North Carolina State Auditor has released a report evaluating the effectiveness of the state's Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO). This is the group responsible for overseeing project management on state IT projects.
The report gives the Project Management Office pretty good marks, but does recommend improvements. From the report:
We conclude that the EPMO has improved the likelihood that projects will be successful. Projects are more likely to be brought in on time and on budget with the required functionality now than they were prior to the implementation of the EPMO.
The report highlights improvement recommendations in areas such as project communication, managing the IT process, and people management. All of which suggests that the state is working hard to improve IT management overall.
