Nuggets: TDK unveils sexy VeloCD

A CD burner with that iMac flair...
Written by Richard Barry, Contributor

TDK, perhaps better known for its audio tapes than its CD writers, is showing off its sexy VeloCD rewriter range at Comdex this week.

How's a CD rewriter sexy I hear you ask? Well it has a certain iMac feel about it with a semi translucent front panel barely hiding the teal interior of an impressive performer.

The VeloCD will rip a CD at 20X and TDK confidently predicts that any CD created on it will "play anywhere" even if you have recorded from MP3, WMA or WAV. That's impressive and will save you forking out for Adaptec's brilliant Easy CD Creator which comes with the player.

The VeloCD records at 8X which is faster than anything else we've seen at Comdex, producing a full burn -- or audio CD -- in around 9 to 10 minutes.

The VeloCD ships with CD Blender, a funky looking music making interface that complements the Adaptec offering.

UK pricing is not available at present but it costs $349 in the US, so expect to pay just over £200.
