Falls in LCD screen pricing are sending notebook prices south.

UK direct seller Rock Computers today slashed the cost of its Virtuoso notebook line. A 166MHz Pentium-based model with 24Mb RAM, 1.8Gb hard drive, 12.1-inch TFT and eight-speed CD-ROM drive falls £400 to £1,999. "The reductions are partly due to our lower cost price of the TFT panels," said Nick Boardman, managing director.

However, the situation is not all positive. While prices for 12.1-inch screens are collapsing, 10.4-inch displays are rising as makers concentrate on top-end lines.

Rock can be contacted by telephone on 01753-547002.
