Labor Department said moving jobs overseas accounted for about 2.5% of the 182,456 workers who lost their jobs for longer than a month for nonseasonal factors in Q1 2004. Moving jobs within the United States accounted for 9,985 layoffs, or 5.5% of nonseasonal mass layoffs. About two-thirds of the jobs moved were in the manufacturing sector. Manufacturing accounted for about 25% of all mass layoffs. 76% of the jobs moved stayed in the same company, although 36% of jobs moved overseas were with a different company.
