It's hard to imagine, but America's suburban sprawl is so all-encompassing that there is only one place in the lower 48 where you can be at least 100 miles away from the nearest McDonald's.
Here it is, the "McFarthest Spot," 107 miles from the nearest McDonald's, as determined by scientist and data-visualization geek Stephen von Worley. Out here in the desert on the Oregon / Nevada border, the true emptiness that comprises the few remaining in-between spaces in our country makes itself felt.
