Optus unleashes broadband pricing defence
As of today, OptusNet DSL and OptusNet Cable plans are being reduced in price by AU$5 to AU$30 a month, with each "entry-level" monthly plan being offered at AU$39.95.
The entry-level DSL plans offer a download allowance of 300MB, with speeds of 512k, and no excess usage fee for extra downloads.
Optus explains that it will speed throttle accounts that have exceeded download quotas instead of charging extra, saying the flat rate pricing on all its plans means that customers won't have any unexpected billing surprises at the end of each month.
Martin Dalgleish, managing director of Optus Consumer and Multimedia, says the Optus ADSL plans offer faster speeds than any other entry-level plans on the market, creating "new waves of competition" for the consumers' benefit.
"All our plans have a minimum speed of 512k to ensure we deliver the true rich media experience customers expect from 'real' broadband," said Dalgleish.
Optus states its plans include other benefits such as free local calls each month and 12 month contracts, adding that current Optus broadband customers will be the first to benefit as they will be automatically migrated to the new pricing system.
"The Optus approach to broadband is unique because we compete on more than just price -- we offer premium packages," said Dalgleish.
