Polycom names Cisco-Tandberg alum as new CEO

Andrew Miller, who formerly worked at both Cisco and Tandberg, has taken over from Robert Hagerty as chief of Polycom.

Polycom has named a new CEO as it eyes competition from Cisco Systems and its newly-acquired Tandberg unit. Andrew Miller, who formerly worked at both Cisco and Tandberg, took over as chief of Polycom with immediate effect.

Miller will replace Robert Hagerty, who will step down as chairman, CEO and president, to make way for Miller. David DeWalt, Polycom's current lead independent director, will become chairman. Miller joined Polycom in 2009 as executive vice president of Polycom's field operations. He has been forging strategic and partner alliances.

The move comes at an interesting time for Polycom. The company remains independent as videoconferencing players quickly consolidate. Cisco's acquisition of Tandberg is the most notable deal, but Logitech also bought LifeSize.
