A new report, sponsored by Plumtree Software, argues that portal technology is "the delivery vehicle for a new generation of composite applications in a marketplace driven by the promise of service-oriented architectures."

Plumtree’s report, which is based on customer interviews and industry research, offers analysis on various aspects of the portal marketplace. The report suggests that personalization features are declining in importance, collaboration is critical and becoming commonplace and companies are actively building new Web-based applications within their portals.

“[P]ortals are taking on a new and critical importance to enterprises as they deploy their SOA strategies,” said John Kunze, CEO at Plumtree Software. “In the report, our customers... understand that by integrating user needs, IT systems and business processes via the portal, they have taken the first steps in delivering a SOA.”
