SINGAPORE - Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a supplier of technology for building E-Business solutions, announces the availability of Progress Version 9.1B, an enhanced version of its suite of integrated development tools, application servers and relational database products.

With new thin client technology, added security features and a native adapter to the Internet messaging server, Progress SonicMQ, Progress Version 9.1B offers Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) an Application Service Provider (ASP)-specific release for developing e-business applications.

The Progress WebClient will enable deployment of thin client, Progress-based applications over the Web, minimizing network traffic and the need to maintain application software on the client. By leveraging existing GUI client code, the WebClient can run an application that provides a robust, rich user interface and a scalable, high-performance architecture.

Version 9.1B of the Progress AppServer uses HTTP tunneling to communicate with the Progress WebClient and other 4GL clients through firewalls that often limit communications to HTTP. The Progress Secure AppServer also offers support for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to enable HTTPS tunneling.

SonicMQ Adapter Opens Applications to B2B Communications
Progress Version 9.1B features an SonicMQ Adapter that integrates Progress-based applications with Progress SonicMQ, an Internet message server. SonicMQ guarantees the secure transport and delivery of data between applications.

"With the inclusion of SmartObjects and the SonicMQ Adapter, it becomes easier for developers to adopt technologies, such as JMS and XML, which are critical for their B2B application communication," says According to Pete Sliwkowski, vice president of Core Product Development at Progress Software.

Availability and pricing
Progress Version 9.1B is available immediately on Windows 95/98/2000, Windows NT and all major UNIX platforms. The release for AS/400 and Linux platforms is scheduled for Q4 2000.

The current U.S. list pricing for Progress Version 9.1B starts at US$7,130 for a single-user license of Progress® ProVision™ Plus, which includes Progress® WebSpeed® Version 3.1; US$2,050 for a five-user license of the Progress Workgroup RDBMS; and US$9,250 for a five-user/five-agent license of the Progress Open AppServer.
