Reader responds: Kids and the Internet

You hit the nail on the head with your commentary about kids and the Internet. I teach computers to middle-school students. We access the Internet with the protection of CyberPatrol. But in setting up CyberPatrol, I had to make a choice of exactly what words to filter out so not to deny access to helpful sites.

Also, a filtering program cannot distinguish between a good picture and a bad one. The best filter for the Internet is a human. We cannot assume that a program can do as good a job as we can. Thank you for addressing this issue.
