Written by Larry Dignan, Contributor

Salesforce.com said on Wednesday it would acquire Assistly, a customer service helpdesk service.

In a statement, Salesforce said it would integrate Assistly with its Service Cloud platform. Assistly integrates social media streams into helpdesk applications. The deal was valued at $50m (£32m).

Salesforce.com said Assistly will give it a strong footprint with SMEs. The plan for Salesforce's Service Cloud is to land SMEs via Assistly and then have them grow up on the company's platform.
