Samsung has gotten into 2 TB hard drive game with the introduction of its new EcoGreen F3EG, touting both a whole lot of space with eco-friendly components at not too steep a price.

The EcoGreen F3EG HDD has an emphasis on the green angle with Samsung’s signature EcoTriangle technology.

That breaks down to three factors:

  • Using eco-friendly components (eliminating halogen compound and brominated flame retardant)
  • Requiring less power (40% less power consumption in idle mode, 10% lower in reading/writing mode)
  • Providing a low-noise operation

The new Samsung desktop hard drive will be available in both 1.5 TB and 2 TB sizes. Here are the specs you should pay attention to:

  • 3.0 Gbps SATA interface
  • Native Command Queuing features
  • 16MB/32MB buffer memory
  • Can store up to 880 hours of DVD-quality video or 500,000 or MP3 songs

I'm not sure what I'd do with all that room, but I'd love the option of not having to worry about clear up hard drive space - especially for that price.

The EcoGreen F3EG will be available in the US and European Union markets later this month for $179.99 (That's €128, but it's not clear if it will sell at the equivalent price overseas yet.)
