SanDisk buys FlashSoft with one eye on enterprise SSDs

The storage specialist has acquired the California-based flash memory maker, with a view to gaining a bigger presence in the enterprise market for SSDs
Written by Andrew Nusca, Contributor

Silicon Valley storage specialist SanDisk announced on Wednesday that it would acquire FlashSoft, the Sunnyvale, California-based flash memory software maker.

FlashSoft gives SanDisk a bigger presence in the enterprise market for solid-state disk drive storage. The company says it plans to sell FlashSoft's products — which promise to boost performance and scalability of applications running on servers — both as standalone and bundled offerings, in conjunction with SanDisk's existing SAS, PCi and SATA products.

In essence, FlashSoft's software configures flash memory products as cache for traditional HDD storage. It supports Windows, Linux and VMWare.
