The enterprise cloud infrastructure and IT solutions firm launched the Symphony Database project last year in North America. Now, the cloud-based database platform is available to European companies.

Savvis says that the platform brings cloud computing to Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments without the need for long-term licensing or server provisioning. The Savvis Symphony Database can be scaled up or down depending on the size and needs of a business without interrupting operations, and comes with a performance guarantee.

In addition, the firm says that the cloud-based database platform is less expensive than standard hosted database solutions.

"Savvis clients choose Symphony Database because of its quick availability, pay-as-you-go model and instant scalability translates into reduced database expenses and complexity," said Neil Cresswell, EMEA managing director at Savvis. "We bring Savvis' mission-critical expertise to the Symphony Database, providing performance levels and availability on par with your traditional data center."

Enterprise customers can choose between Oracle Enterprise 11G RAC or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for the underlying mechanics of the platform.

Recently launching a new data center in Frankfurt, Germany, Bill Fathers, president of Savvis said the opening "signifies a major milestone in our plans to serve growing demand in the European market". Taking the next step --extending the reach of North American products -- appears to cement the company's intentions to entrench themselves more fully into the potential of the European marketplace.
