Company commits £120m to transformation project

Scottish Water has signed three tech contracts to the tune of £120m to help improve its operations and give better value to customers.

The deals are intended to save around £8m over eight years by moving to a managed services model and using a smaller number of tech suppliers.

The contracts have been signed with BT for mobile, data, voice and network services, Fujitsu for service desk and infrastructure support and India's Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for application management.

The water supplier has been working on a tech transformation project for the past six years and is already working with Atos Origin, Fujitsu, Logica and TCS.

The reduced costs will mean more money will be available to invest in the water network, while more staff will be available to work on other strategic projects.

General manager for IT at Scottish Water, David Brown, said the contracts provide a rounded package of benefits from exploiting the capabilities of "some of the most innovative companies in the business".

Scottish Water serves around five million people and has approximately 4,000 employees in various locations across Scotland, including a number of engineers and support staff who work remotely.
