The end of summer has brought a rash of announcements, improvements, and some new releases from SightSpeed. Here are a few of the highlights, and my comments on some of them:

- First, they have made several update releases over the summer, the most recent of which was last week, version 6557. (Since SightSpeed keeps the Windows and Mac versions synchronized, there is no need to worry about one version being "left behind". Now if they would just make a Linux version!)

- For private users, SightSpeed now has three (or four) different versions available:

Free, the original version, which now has excellent support for High Quality Video with whatever camera/computer/connection combinations can handle it - meaning your equipment determines if you will get High Quality, not some arbitrary decision by your Video Chat supplier. There is also a MySightSpeed browser based client which allows non-SightSpeed users to contact you when you are logged into SightSpeed.

Plus, which is the free version with 4-way video chat and longer video e-mails, at a subscription pice of $10/month.

Light, a widget that brings SightSpeed to the MySpace and hi5 social networking sites. It includes live video chat and recorded video messages.

Dell Video Chat, powerd by SightSpeed, included not only on the Studio line of Dell laptops, but also on the Studio Hybrid desktop systems.

- For Business users:

Business, A suite of business communication and communication management tools, including the basic SightSpeed video chat with up to 9-way simultaneous video conferencing, and tools to monitor and manage multiple individual SightSpeed accounts. This delivers virtually all of the power and quality of dedicated "telepresence" systems, and gives much more flexibility because not only do you not need a dedicated video conference room, you can use it on the road anywhere that you have adequate internet connection bandwidth.

There was a good article in The Earth Times recently on how SightSpeed can help with crisis management. It's worth a read.

The bottom line is, whether the end of summer means getting back to business, back to school, or back to your normal routine, You can benefit from SightSpeed in a lot of ways.
