SingTel offers international Frame Relay service in Vietnam
From Aug 2000, large multinational corporations and business customers in Vietnam can look forward to connection
speeds of up to nearly 2 Megabits per second for their intra-corporate communications.
SINGAPORE, 25 July 2000 -- A new agreement signed between Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel) and Vietnam
Datacommunications Company (VDC), the data services arm of Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT), to offer
international Frame Relay (FR) service in Vietnam, will allow connection speeds to Vietnam at up to nearly 2Mb/sec.
With this agreement, SingTel becomes the first foreign carrier to offer such a service in the country. It will
be launched in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on 1 August.
Both companies are offering this service to meet a rapidly-growing demand for high-quality FR service between the
two countries. Customers will be able to enjoy reliable service; convenience in the form of a single point of contact,
ordering, support and billing for all telecom services; and enhanced sales and technical support in both Vietnam
and Singapore through the combined efforts of both SingTel and VDC.
In addition, a service level guarantee will ensure that customers continue to enjoy high network quality and availability.
Mr Lim Shyong, SingTel Executive Vice-President (Global Business), said, "As more and more companies have
business operations and dealings between Singapore and Vietnam, they will want more than just standard, plain vanilla
products. Increasingly, they want end-to-end managed network as well as value-added services such as router management
and e-commerce to enhance their own business requirements."
