Taiwan's DigiTimes, the only daily IT publication in the semiconductor-manufacturing island nation, has big news about Skype today.

DigiTimes reports that Skype has just introduced its PChome Touch-1 USB phone with a built-in Skype API(Application Program Interface) in Taiwan.

More important for the worldwide competitive landscape, Skype CEO Niklas Zennstrom told Taiwanese media that this year, the company will aggressively extend its P2P VoIP application from desktop PCs to mobile devices.

Skype is already doing so with Siemens Mobile.

I think, especially given the possibility that Siemens may decide to stop making cell phones, that you will see built-in Skype software in models from other manufacturers.

Skype will also rollout voice mail and video conferencing this year, Zennstrom said.
